En los últimos años, los utilitarios deportivos han perdido tanto fuelle, que modelos muy característicos han desaparecido. Un nicho del segmento B muy codiciado que ha visto la llegada de alternativas completamente inéditas. Es el caso del Toyota GR Yaris, cuyo éxito comercial ha obligado a aumentar la producción.
Los utilitarios deportivos siempre han sido coto de unos cuantos fabricantes. Los franceses de Peugeot y Renault, junto con Volkswagen, han dominado la categoría con auténticas bombas de relojería. Nada hacía pensar hace unos años que este nicho del segmento B prácticamente desaparecía, ni tampoco que otras marcas como Toyota o Hyundai decidiesen asaltarlo.
La nipona y la coreana lo han hecho, desgraciadamente cuando las francesas lo han abandonado, lo que habría sido una reñida competencia. Mientras las europeas no estaban muy convencidas de seguir apostando por esta categoría, los de Toyota estaban convencidos de lo contrario. El poco tiempo que el Toyota GR Yaris lleva a la venta ha confirmado, incluso roto las previsiones, pues su éxito comercial es tan alto que ha obligado a la marca a aumentar su producción.
El inédito Toyota GR Yaris estará en fabricación hasta 2023
Toyota ha aumentado la producción de este Yaris más deportivo por un espacio de dos años más, por lo que su disponibilidad está garantizada hasta 2023. Y sin límite de unidades destinadas a cada mercado, porque en República Checa, la firma limitó la producción a 50 unidades, por lo que al levantar el embargo, se han multiplicado por cuatro los pedidos.
Los de Gazoo Racing han cautivado a los clientes con un modelo que arrancó como una mula de la carrocería del Yaris de cinco puertas, transformándose en un tres puertas poco convencional en la categoría. Y es que, comparado con los últimos representantes franceses y con el actual Polo GTI, dista mucho en términos de potencia y dinámica de conducción. A diferencia de éstos, el GR Yaris combina la sección delantera de la plataforma GA-B del Yaris con la sección trasera de la GA-C del Corolla, lo que le confiere un aplomo soberbio.
Un complemento muy importante si tenemos en cuenta que bajo esa agresiva estética esconde un motor de gasolina de tres cilindros turbo y 1.6 litros con una potencia máxima de 261 CV, y que traslada al suelo a través de la tracción total. La firma deportiva también ofrece un paquete opcional «Sport», que añade un diferencial Torsen, muelles y amortiguadores de competición y hasta llantas de aleación forjadas de 18 pulgadas.
